Scoping study on child marriage by HER CHOICE partner University of Amsterdam

HER CHOICE partner University of Amsterdam examined the existing academic and programmatic literature on child marriage in order to give an overview of the issue and to identify thematic and geographic gaps in the literature. As well as examining global information, the study specifically focuses on the 11 project countries of the HER CHOICE Alliance: Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Nepal, Pakistan, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Uganda. The scoping study uses statistical tables and narrative to explore the prevalence of child marriage, the reasons and effects of child marriage and the relationship between child marriage and education. It discusses laws at the international and national level on child marriage and related issues as child rights, female genital mutilation and domestic violence. The study also examines the intervention strategies of organisations who are working on the issue of child marriage, including the HER CHOICE Alliance.
